Managing Waterbed disasters
As compared to traditional beds, waterbeds need extra care
and maintenance due to its unique structure and features. A
waterbed consists water-containing mattress inside a
rectangular frame of wood or foam frames.
These beds are classified as hard-sided waterbeds and
soft-sided waterbeds. These days, soft-sided, or commonly know
as hybrid waterbeds and are more common due to its easy
mobility, care, and maintenance. Before buying a waterbed, one
should have a complete knowledge regarding managing waterbed
disasters and what precautions should be taken while using
it.
Maintaining the Waterbed
The maintenance of waterbed is simple and requires some
safety measures to be followed while installing it. These
include –
No Air in the Bed: After installation, it should be noted
that there is no air or air bubbles in the bed. If there is
some air after installation, one should vent the air out
through the air valves.
Volume of Water: The water volume in a waterbed should be at
or just below the level of the surrounding foam frame. Water in
a mattress always needs some sort of flexibility.
Setting the Temperature: You can adjust the temperature
according to your preference. The ideal temperature setting
should be approximately 28 degrees Celsius.
Regular Cleaning: The regular cleaning of the waterbed is
essential in order to get the maximum gain from it. It is
advisable to clean it on a usual basis.
Liner: Liner should be in its place because in case of a
leakage, it will provide the instant protection. One should at
least check the liner twice a year
Managing Leakage in Waterbeds
There is always a minimal chance of leakage in the mattress.
If it happens, one should be aware of the safety measures that
should be taken. These include –
* Locating the Leak: Quickly find out the area where leakage
is taking place. Check the sides, corners, and top of the vinyl
mattress. For finding the leak point place a pillow under the
safety liner at leakage point.
* Repairing the Leakage: After locating the leak point,
start repairing it by cleaning and drying the area around the
puncture. Then apply the waterbed glue (larger than the patch
size) to the puncture area. Allow it to dry and then again
apply glue to the patch. As soon as glue will dry, it will get
strongly bonded with the mattress. The bed is ready to be used
again.
Quality Waterbed Frame
Choosing the right waterbed frame is the foremost
consideration while purchasing a waterbed. For a hard-sided
waterbed, one needs to buy a platform waterbed frames that will
give perfect shape and support to the mattress.
Whereas for a soft-sided mattress, one can opt for platform
waterbed frames or metal frames. One needs to choose a quality
and proper bed frame that would disperse the weight of water
evenly over the whole area.
